About the Association To Help Chernobyl,Chubu-District,Japan

Chernobyl nuclear generation plant had an accident on April 26 1986. The accident released radioactive substance like cesium 137, which was equivalent amount to 500 Hiroshima type atomic bombs, and has been affecting the people’s lives profusely in the contaminated area.
the Association To Help Chernobyl,Chubu-District,Japan is a NPO to aid self-reliance of the local people through Chernobyl accident afflicted people relief activity. Our purpose is “The contribution to international cooperation and human right protection by means of the aid project of Chernobyl sufferers.”
The start of us
After Chernobyl nuclear generation plant accident occurred on April 26 1986, an aid was asked to associate professor Sinsuke Yamazato of Nagoya Institute of Technology. Volunteers in midland Japan responded it and “the Association To Help Chernobyl,Chubu-District,Japan” was launched intending to help Ukrainian sufferers and self-reliance of the area in April 1990.
Aid activity started using “Immigration Funds” under Ukraine Journalist Confederation as a contact window.
the Association To Help Chernobyl,Chubu-District,Japan is the first Japanese group, which visited the disaster afflicted area with aid supply as a private group in August 1990. We acquired NPO corporate status in August 2000, have continued its activity. We have 54 full members and 1052 supporting members as of 2009.
